Cranes

Autumn is crane season in Brandenburg. When are you coming to visit? When the days grow shorter, Berlin and Brandenburg continue to shine with a unique combination of natural and cultural experiences. One of Europe’s largest roosting places for cranes is located a mere 60 kilometres north of central Berlin. A unique natural spectacle can be observed at dusk. As the sun sets, the cranes return to their roosts – up to 80,000 birds every evening.

As well in spring and summer a countryside tour just outside Berlin is worth the effort. Best to do by bike and train. Your reward: birds can be observed e.g. white storks, sea eagles or fish eagles.

Tour example: Eight-hour guided tour by bike starting/ending at trainstation S-Bahnhof Friedrichstraße (city-centre east). Opportunity for bird observation by spotting scopes and binoculars.
